MICHAEL R. PLICKYS, P.E., PRINCIPAL IN CHARGE
After graduating in 1986 with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Michael received a full Graduate Assistantship from Lehigh University Department of Civil Engineering. Upon graduating with a MS Degree in Structural Engineering from Lehigh, he began his engineering career with D’Huy Engineering in Bethlehem, PA and relocating back to Connecticut he joined Macchi Engineers in 1989. During his early years at Macchi he worked closely under the supervision of his mentors; Anselmo John Macchi and James Brockman where he designed and completed numerous complex projects throughout New England. He is currently the Principal in Charge of Macchi Engineers and responsible for overseeing and supervising all structural and civil engineering projects. He is actively involved in each project providing his professional direction, defining scope of work, contract negotiation, client liaison and implementing quality control procedures. His expertise includes feasibility studies, structural investigation and analysis, structural design for new construction, renovation and upgrades, third party threshold reviews, and special inspection services. Keeping up with the latest technology he is extremely proficient in developing structural BIM and clash detection models utilizing Revit Software.
As he continues to head up the firm’s structural department he gives his direct professional attention to the successful completion for a variety of building projects. He has extensive experience in the design of many diverse structures, including dormitories, police stations, hospitals, firehouses, educational facilities, parking garages, hotels, housing projects, churches, bridges and dams, and industrial buildings. He designs all types of foundations including spread footings, mats, and deep foundations such as piles, caissons and rammed aggregate piers. His expertise includes special structures such as fish ladders, fish hatcheries, towers, antennas and steel sculptures.
Mr. Plickys is constantly giving back to the community with his continuous involvement with several City of Hartford mentoring programs, college internships and with his services as an Adjunct Professor for Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT, the Capital Community College in Hartford, CT, and the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT.
