Kensington Dam

Project Hightlights:

Berlin, CT – Kensington Dam impounds the Mattabesset River to form the 12 acre Railroad Pond.  The dam is 210 feet in length and 25 feet in height.  It consists of a concrete gravity dam with a centrally located spillway approximately 74 feet in width.  The dam had significant deterioration to the concrete throughout its entirety.  Repair work entailed removal of all the deteriorated concrete to a sound surface and completely encasing the dam with a new layer of concrete.  Additionally, a fish passage was added to the site consisting of an aluminum fish ladder with associated inlet and outlet structures.  The new fish inlet structure also includes an eel ramp with a small work area for CT DEEP Fisheries to capture and relocate the eels.
