Macchi Engineers’ Design Build Team takes their Clients from the initial planning stages of a project through the final completion. Our Firm provides the close professional attention through every step of the design build process to assure the timely and successful delivery of the completed project.

Macchi Engineers also provides structural and civil engineering services to Major Clients for the development of the Request for Proposals and Request for Qualifications for the Design Build Process.


  • UCONN Lot G Parking Garage and Co-op Facility, Storrs, CT

Macchi Engineers was responsible for the civil design, layout, operational plan, schematic design, RFP, structural threshold review, and duties relating to Owner’s Representative including full-time, on-site construction administration and inspection.

Design/Build parking structure is located on Stadium Road on the West side of the campus. This six level garage consists of slab on grade parking with five levels of precast concrete tees. There are four bays of tees spanning 55 feet in the north-south direction. The total length of the garage is approximately 350 feet providing nearly 440,000 total square footage. Currently there are slightly over 1,500 parking spaces available in the garage.

  • UCONN Lot 9 Parking Garage, Storrs, CT

Macchi Engineers was responsible for the civil design, layout, operational plan, schematic design, RFP, construction administration, special inspection services, and structural threshold review.

This 1,000-car parking structure is located at the Northwestern portion of the campus at the corner of North Eagleville Road and Alumni Road. The garage consists of five levels of slab on grade parking with four levels of precast concrete tees. There are four bays of tees spanning 55 feet in the east-west direction. The total length of the garage is approximately 300 feet providing nearly 340,000 total square footage.

  • Southern Connecticut State University Parking Garage, New Haven, CT

Develop an RFP and the schematic design for a new 200,000 SF 600-car, precast concrete, design / build parking garage on the SCSU Campus. The project includes the identification of the garage layout, circulation, security systems, entrance / exit locations, stair tower locations, pedestrian access, site development and construction administration.

  • Eastern Connecticut State University Parking Garage, Willimantic, CT

Development of the RFP and Schematic Design for a new 720-car, precast concrete, design/build parking garage. Project included site development, construction administration and on-site construction observation services. Our firm also completed the parking analysis of the existing conditions to determine the parking deficiencies in various campus sectors for ECSU to develop the 720-car parking facility and the at grade 250-space parking area. We were also responsible for the traffic impact studies and STC permit documentation to determine impacts to State roadway systems and development of recommendations for improvements.

  • Rockville Courthouse Parking Garage, Rockville, CT

Structural design of a new, 65,000 SF, 3-story, 173 car precast parking garage was designed to provide parking for the Rockville Courthouse. The foundation system consists of spread footings bearing on rock. The garage was built into an existing hill requiring construction of an extensive retaining wall system. Security concerns of employees were a critical issue in the design of this facility. A security office was constructed to control access into the structure; fencing, lighting, and high visibility were all components provided in the design. The stairwells are constructed of a split-faced block, which provides an attractive facade while keeping costs to a minimum.

  • Main Street Parking Garage, Norwich, CT

Structural engineering services for a new, 52,000 SF, 4-story, 140 car, municipal parking garage. The services for this Design-Build Project included the investigation, structural design and construction inspection. The garage is constructed of precast concrete with a “stepped “ brick panel façade to reflect the local architecture as well as to conceal the sloping ramps. The garage has two enclosed stair towers, one elevator, a forced ventilation system, and a dry pipe sprinkler system. The foundation and lateral systems were designed to resist seismic and soil loads. The garage was constructed between two existing buildings with a 30 ft grade difference.
